Daydream Break Corner is a visual merchandising proposal developed from observations of everyday urban behaviour. In Taiwan, short naps and brief rest breaks are common, yet often uncomfortable in practice: beds feel too formal and unhygienic, sofas easily lead to oversleeping, and standard office chairs do not allow the body to properly relax. Rather than creating a space for deep sleep, this project addresses the need for a short reset, a transitional moment between alertness and rest within a busy daily routine.

The POÄNG chair serves as the core product. Its gentle rocking motion and semi-reclined angle help slow the body down while maintaining support and ease of standing up, making it suitable for short breaks. The visual design uses simple geometric forms as structural elements. Arches and shapes suggest a shift away from full alertness, while circular lighting references the setting sun, introducing a softer rhythm to the space. A colour palette of sunset red, dusk pink, and deep purple supports this transition, with the yellow POÄNG chair acting as a visual anchor that aligns the setting with IKEA’s brand identity.

To enhance realism, the display incorporates everyday details such as slightly misaligned cushions, a blanket draped over the chair, open books, cups, plants, and soft lighting. These elements create a space that feels lived-in rather than staged, encouraging viewers to imagine themselves using the product in their own routines.

Designed as a practical in-store lifestyle corner, Daydream Break Corner integrates product, space, and atmosphere to offer busy city dwellers a comfortable and achievable moment of pause.
